Papers of the Brooke family, 1659-1899.

Legal documents of the Brooke and related Bowie families about land in Calvert and Prince Georges counties, Md. constitute the bulk of the collection. There are patents, deeds, a will, survey reports, depositions, and a sheriff's order. There are also an account, a bill of lading, and bills of exchange from the tobacco trade. The collection also includes a letter about illegal lumbering, one from Robert Morris concerning a debt, and one concerning the interest on the Maryland state debt as well as a printed order concerning the Maryland militia.
